Marigoldfur hooked a fuzzy leaf out of the store with a paw. He tried not to puncture the leaf as he held it out in front of Primrosepaw. "Now," he swished his feathery tail gingerly. "What is this herb called. He touched the oval shaped leaf with his nose and gestured for the apprentice to smell it.
Her wide observant amber eyes watched carefully as he brought the leaf to her, she studied it carefully it looked like most leaves in the forest since had only just started to learn the herbs. She let out a confused sound before speaking up. " I'm not sure, it just looks like a regular leaf," she meowed Blinking at her mentor.
Marigoldfur nodded sympathetically to the she-cat. "To most, it is. But feel the fuzz on it? This leaf is called borage. Most times it is used for stimulating milk in nursing queens, but on some occasions, we use it to treat fever."
She brushed her paw over the leaf to free the fuzz on it, borage leaf she muttered to herself, " Oh I recognize it now!" she meowed nodding at Marigoldfur. It was of course hard to remember all the herbs but Primrosepaw usually had a great memory.
Marigoldfur nodded. "Next I'm going to show you how to make a poultice of herbs that are good for cuts." he meowed. "Find me poppy seeds, horsetail, marigold, and wild garlic. If there's any left that is." He laid himself on the earth, splaying out each limb to reflect the posture of a hurt cat.
She nodded quickly right, poppy seed, she muttered to herself over again until her gaze landed pile of brownish black seeds tucked up in a leaf for storage. She gently grabbed another storage leaf and licked her paw and putting in into the seeds, when enough had gathered on her paw she shook them off onto the leaf. Her gaze landed on A tall, bristly-stemmed plant which she recognized as horsetail she grabbed some and placed it on her pile, she knew exactly where the pretty marigold plant was add that too, lastly she sniffed a patch of garlic just to make sure before adding that and returing to her mentor. " Hows this?" she nudged the small portions of herbs to her mentor.
Maigoldfur sniffed the air, but didn't move. "It's good, but I'm dying from an infected cut, so you must gather things quickly and apply it quickly. He tapped his side with his tail, where there was no injury. "Chew them and place them on the 'injury' and make sure you secure it with cobwebs."
she lapped up the small content of the leaf and chew them into a pulp, she didn't enjoy the taste but carried on anyways. She moved over to his side and layed the pulpy herbs on to his invisible injury. " Is this good?" she asked checking she was doing the right thing.
Maigoldfur nodded. "Yes.. Though you can be more generous on the herbs, and make sure the injury is covered with cobwebs competely, alright?" he flipped his front paws slightly "Help me.. I'm dying.." he moaned. Humor glinted in his bright green eyes as he watched Primrose paw set to work
her long transparent whiskers quivered in amusement, she grabbed some cobwebs and began to dress the non-exsistant wound, " So, what even happened to you," she asked continuing to add cobwebs making sure it was perfect.
Marigoldfur's eyes glazed over in confusion. "Hmm..." he laid in thought for a few moments before replying. "I called on of the expecting queens fat." he laughed out loud, and a small amount of fear hit his eyes. "Don't tell them I made that joke, or you'll be dressing this wound for real." He stood up. "That was well done, Primrosepaw. Why don't you go and get something to eat." He pawed off the herbs and dropped them in one of the reed baskets. "And bring me a nice, big, carp!"
humor burned in her eyes, " How rude," she joked playfully nudging Mariogldfur, she began to lick her paws clean from some of the pulpy herbs had stuck to them. She purred getting praised from her mentor before nodded walking toward the exit of the den, " Will do," she told him leaving. She padded to the pile of prey studying it for a moment. She quickly grabbed a carp for her mentor as instructed, and a smaller minnow for herself. She padded back to the den, " Here," she dropped the fish at his paws before seating her self down next to him biting into her minnow.
She nodded, " Only minor injuries," she meowed " I'm grateful for that, but some queens will be kitting soon, which of course isn't bad since we have a good stock of herbs," she meowed rasping her tongue over her black lips and whiskers before biting into her fish again.
